Dr. Steve Gallon III returned to his roots at Holmes Elementary in support of bringing vision screenings to students. As former Principal of Holmes Elementary almost two decades ago, Dr. Gallon with the generosity of Davis Vision, provided nearly 50 students with free vision screenings and free eyeglasses through the ‘Kids First’ event held at the school in June.
Dr. Gallon and Davis Vision recognize how critically linked students’ overall health and well being are to their learning and academic success. Specifically, a student’s vision is inextricably linked to all areas of their learning and their ability to demonstrate mastery of taught content. With the collaborative efforts of Dr. Gallon and Davis Vision, the resources needed to improve students’ academic performance was met with attention to wellness and a new pair of eyeglasses.
Holmes Elementary, a fixture in the heart of Miami’s Liberty City, is just blocks away from countless shootings that have claimed the lives of several youth in the area. The school continues to be one of the educational outlets that serves students that face enormous educational and life debilitating challenges. Because of this, Dr. Gallon and Davis Vision are especially proud to have partnered and agreed on the importance of wellness initiatives to support students’ academic journeys while at Holmes Elementary and beyond.
