The mission of the Richard Allen Leadership Academy (RALA), Florida’s first “All Boys” public elementary charter school, is to create an environment in which young men can be developed into exceptional students, positive role models, and community leaders. RALA has responded to the call for educational solutions to stem the tide and patter of underperformance of males, especially minority males. It has done so by providing an innovative, enriching and individualized science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational program that will stimulate and accelerate learning and achievement in a safe and nurturing environment. The School has engaged partners from the private, public, faith-based, and civic sectors to help support both the learning and development of young boys into responsible, dedicated youth and adults.
Since its opening, RALA has successfully achieved its mission and specific goals that included increased enrollment from 83 students to a high of 101; earned consecutive Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) passing letter grades; documented annual student promotion rates that exceeded 95% ; earned membership into the National Elementary School Honor Society (11 and 8 young men were inducted into the Society in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 respectively); and expanded science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curriculum. RALA added academic disciplines of Botany (study of plants) and Herpetology (study of amphibians and reptiles) and launched the discipline of Robotics at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. Noted local businesses and individuals have partnered with the school to support and stimulate the learning and interest of RALA’s students in this area during the 2012-2013 school year.
