Greetings,
I hope that this edition of Gallon’s Good News finds each of you and your family on a successful journey through the school year. As the end of the year and 2019 Holiday Season approaches, I am humbled and honored that November 22, 2019 marked the three year anniversary of fulfilling my purpose as your District 1 School Board Member. I am equally honored and humbled by having been elected as Vice Chair of the School Board and school district that has given me so much as a former student and employee.
It continues to be a privilege for me to serve and advocate for issues of academic improvement, employee working conditions and compensation, community engagement, and the overall equity and access for all students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. We have made tremendous strides in the area of teaching and learning, and will continue to build upon our past and present success. Doing so makes me more than confident that our shared goals will be achieved.
In closing, I would like to once again thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to our students and wish you Happy Holidays and a prosperous and productive New Year.

November 20, 2019 Board Meeting
During the Organizational Meeting held before the November 20, 2019 School Board Meeting, Dr. Gallon was elected School Board Vice Chair. He continues to be actively engaged in his role as a policy maker as he successfully proffered School Board agenda items that received approval and support from the Board.

New Teacher Orientation

On November 4, 2019, Dr. Gallon was honored and humbled to bring greetings and words of inspiration and motivation about the power of education to newly hired teachers in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
“It was nearly 30 years ago that I sat in their same seats—eager to teach and change the world,” Dr. Gallon said.
“I was proud to welcome the new teachers who will be spending their day at the District’s New Teacher Orientation, and I challenged and encouraged them to go out and positively touch the lives of their students, touch the future, and change the world.” -Dr. Gallon
Finished High School…Now What?

On November 5, 2019, Dr. Gallon spoke about the importance and value of planning and purpose at the “Finished High School…Now What?” Conference held by the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project.
“It is always an honor and privilege to sow words of hope, experience, and motivation into our male youth,” said Dr. Gallon.
Human Trafficking Awareness Tour

Dr. Gallon is committed to protecting young girls from the trappings of Human Trafficking in his community and throughout the country. He was proud to join Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, School Board Member Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall, Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan, Mayor Oliver Gilbert and others to increase awareness in the ills and vices of human trafficking.
Youth Empowerment Summit

Dr. Gallon had a great start to his morning on November 7, 2019 with outstanding students from Florida City to County Line Road at the Youth Empowerment Summit.
It was a great opportunity to join his friends and colleagues School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall and Dr. Martin Karp as M-DCPS partnered with the Trayvon Martin Foundation, Miami-Dade College, the Miami Dolphins and other key partners to inspire, educate, and uplift the youth.
“The students in attendance once again convinced me that our future is bright,” said a hopeful Dr. Gallon.
Recognizing Pastor Wayne B. Lomax

Dr. Gallon was excited to celebrate and salute the service, stewardship, and sacrifice of Pastor Wayne B. Lomax of The Fountain Church as he celebrated his wedding anniversary, church anniversary, and birthday.
Dr. Gallon is proud to have Pastor Lomax’s unwavering service and support and as a champion for the children and community of District 1.
Visit to Scott Lake Elementary

Dr. Gallon received word that a Scott Lake Elementary School student by the name of Avery Clark, a first-grader who was selected as Student of the Month last year, had been asking about his School Board Member.
On November 12, 2019, Principal LaKesha Wilson-Rochelle escorted Dr. Gallon to make a surprise visit to his class.
