Teacher of the Year Awards Dinner
The look on your face when you shake the hand of your 9th grade English teacher who singlehandedly change the course of your life.
When I didn’t want to read “Red Badge of Courage” he gave me “Manchild in the Promise Land.”
When they gave him 9th graders from Liberty City during his first year. He set high expectations, moved instructional mountains, and saw and demanded more from us than we saw and demanded of ourselves.
When he decided to kick me out his class during the year. He did so because he thought that I should be in Honors. And demanded that I be placed in it.
