Dr. Steve Gallon III, School Board Member for District 1 of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools has been named as the “2018 Educator of the Year” by Legacy Magazine. A product of the Miami-Dade County Public School system, Dr. Gallon is being recognized for his nearly three decades of service to public education and the community as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, elementary school and high school principal, district administrator, adjunct professor, author, Superintendent of Schools, and presently, elected District 1 Miami-Dade County Public Schools Board Member.
In 2017, Dr. Gallon was also named the Benjamin Elijah Mays Award Winner for his lifetime achievement and service in urban education by the National School Boards Association Council of Urban Boards of Education, and on April 7, 2018, he was elected to its National Steering Committee for a three-year term.
The Legacy recognition as the 2018 Educator of the Year recognition was published on May 14, 2018 and inserted in the Business Monday section of the Miami Herald Newspaper.
