On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, District 1 hosted its very first town hall meeting of the 2025-2026 school year at Miami Carol City Senior High School, bringing together educators, students, families, and community leaders to celebrate the tremendous progress being made in our schools. The evening highlighted the dedication of teachers, administrators, and—most importantly—students whose success continues to drive the district forward.
The event began with a special Principals’ Pre-Town Hall reception, catered by the talented Culinary Arts students of Miami Carol City Senior High School. In recognition of their outstanding work, a $500 donation was made to support their program.
Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres, Commissioner Oliver Gilbert, and municipal leaders from Opa-locka, North Miami Beach, North Miami, and Miami Gardens joined the celebration, underscoring the collective effort required to strengthen education across the community.
Two long-standing community partners were also honored for their investment in District 1 schools: the Ten North Group, led by Dr. Willie Logan, and Wright Funeral Home, led by Terry Wright.
Today, 70% of District 1 schools are rated “A” or “B”—a milestone achievement that reflects both progress and the ongoing commitment to excellence. While there is much to celebrate, district leaders reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring even greater success for every student.
“Together, we will continue building on this momentum to provide the best possible opportunities for our children,” said Dr. Steve Gallon III.
