PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF DR. STEVE GALLON III
November 16, 2020
At the School Board Meeting of November 18, 2020, School Board Vice Chair Dr. Steve Gallon III will proffer School Board Agenda Item H-7 regarding the review of COVID-19 related procedures for identification, notification, quarantine, and testing.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools remains committed to the health, safety, and wellness of its employees, parents, community stakeholders, and most importantly it’s students. As the community, state, nation, and world continues to wrestle with the significant and adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, school systems around the nation including Miami-Dade continue to grapple with the provision of safe and healthy learning and working environments for its employees and students. In doing so, the identification, notification, quarantine, and testing as they relate to COVID-19 have become a fulcrum of not only a school district’s strategy but as well as that of public and private companies and organizations.
“Despite the District’s commitment, dedication, and tireless efforts, there remains anxiety driven by ambiguity around plans, processes, and procedures for COVID-19 identification, notification, quarantine, and testing across the District,” said Dr. Gallon. “Such existence amongst employees, parents, community members, and most importantly students, require that the School Board reviews this matter and takes deliberate action in clarifying and directing improvements.”
“As this vicious virus continues to negatively impact and take lives here in Miami-Dade and throughout the nation, we, as a Board, must continue to review, monitor, assess, lead, and take appropriate action to ensure that we’re doing everything possible to protect our employees, stakeholders, and most important, students,” Dr. Gallon stated.
This item seeks to address, review, and modify processes and procedures, where necessary, as it relates to COVID-19 identification, notification, quarantine, and testing.
