November 21, 2019
At the Miami-Dade County School Board Organization meeting held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, School Board Member Dr. Steve Gallon III was elected Vice-Chair of the School Board. Dr. Gallon, who represents District 1, was first elected to the School Board in 2016. This is his first time as Vice-Chair.
Having served as a teacher, assistant principal, elementary and high school principal, District Administrator, and Superintendent of Schools, this honor continues Dr. Gallon’s lifelong service as an educator and a leader at the local, state, and national level.
He is presently the Vice-Chair of the Council of Urban Boards of Education and a member of the Executive Board of the Florida School Boards Association.
“I am deeply humbled and honored by my election as Vice-Chair of a School Board and school district that has given me so much as a former student and employee. I would also like to extend congratulations to Ms. Perla Tabares Hantman for being re-elected as Chairwoman of the Miami-Dade County School Board and am honored to serve alongside her as we continue to educate our children and improve our school district,” Dr. Gallon stated.
“I look forward to serving in a manner that honors the trust and confidence that my colleagues and community have placed in me and my ability to continue to help lead the District on behalf of our employees, community, and more importantly, our children,” said Dr. Gallon.
