Greetings,
I trust that your return from the Holiday Season and into 2019 brought an increased sense of hope, enthusiasm, and dedication toward achieving our collective mission as leaders, teachers, employees, parents, students, and stakeholders of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. I remain deeply humbled and honored to serve as your District 1 School Board Member. As we continue to move forward through the 2018-2019 school year, I remain confident that we will continue to do so with an unbridled focus on the learning and achievement of our students, and ensuring the best working conditions for our employees.
January 2019 launched the New Year with a spirit of excitement and optimism for the future. We remain grateful to the community of voters for supporting our efforts to improve teacher salaries and security, and remain honored and humbled to have served as an initial vessel in this effort. However, we still have work to do and 2019 also brings new conversations and opportunities to examine and explore ways to increase employee salaries, strengthen accountability and transparency, and improve learning for all students. Despite many of the challenges we face, both our journey and history have always taught that we are stronger together.
As we continue our collective journey to improve the learning and lives of our students and uplift of our communities, let’s do so with the faith, determination, and work that have brought us thus far and can take us even further.

January 16, 2019 Board Meeting
At the January 16, 2019 School Board Meeting, Dr. Gallon was actively engaged in his role as a policy maker as he successfully proffered School Board agenda items that received unanimous approval and support from the Board.

Poetry & Leadership Conference
District 1 and Miami Norland Senior High were proud to support and host The Jason Taylor Foundation, along with Dr. Precious Symonnette, educators, and students from around the county and state for the Poetry and Leadership Conference.
Dr. Gallon was humbled to interact with facilitators and participants and to extend greetings at such an exciting and meaningful event.
Family Christian Association of America
Dr. Gallon was honored and humbled to serve as the Keynote Speaker at the Family Christian Association of America’s 35th Annual Meeting and Sustaining Campaign Kickoff.
He was also proud to join President/CEO Terry Joseph and other dedicated individuals at this Wakanda themed event.
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at Scott Lake Elementary
On January 17, 2019, Dr. Gallon had an exciting morning at Scott Lake Elementary School for the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the over $5 Million Dollar GOB Construction Project.
The children of Scott Lake Elementary were provided with new classrooms, new technology, a new drop-point, and additional teaching and learning resources.
Dr. Gallon gave kudos to Principal LaKesha Wilson-Rochelle for her outstanding leadership and unwavering advocacy.
“We have much work to do, but today was a great step in the right direction” said Dr. Gallon.
26th Annual 5000 Role Models of Excellence Foundation Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast
At the 26th Annual 5000 Role Models of Excellence Foundation Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast, Dr. Gallon was in attendance to congratulate and applaud the graduating scholarship recipients.
MLK Parade
Dr. Gallon received “COMMUNITY LOVE” at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Parade in which the community came out to celebrate and give honor to the great civil rights leader, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
District 1 Town Hall Meeting
There was great energy and turnout at the District 1 Quarterly Town Hall Meeting held at North Miami Senior High School. Dr. Gallon was honored, humbled, and excited to provide information and updates on policies, practices, and programs in District 1 and M-DCPS.
He was also pleased and thankful to have his friend and colleague District 2 School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall in attendance.
Dr. Gallon looks forward to the work ahead and continued opportunities to educate students and uplift the community.
Miami Carol City Senior School-wide Convocation
Dr. Gallon spent the morning of January 23, 2019 at Miami Carol City Senior High School for their school-wide Convocation. Dr. Gallon was humbled and honored to join Carol City alumnus and supporter Claudienne Hibbert-Smith in providing words of support, motivation, and inspiration to the student body and reminding them to “Finish Strong” for the 2018-2019 school year and beyond.
He gave kudos to Principal Adrena Yvette Williams and her entire team and staff for their continued work in changing the culture and shifting the narrative at Miami Carol City Senior High School.
NSBA Equity Symposium
During the NSBA Equity Symposium, Dr. Gallon traveled to Washington, D.C. where he attended and was actively engaged in the conference sessions. He introduced and spoke at the session “Learning in the Shadow of Color: Over Representation of Student Subgroups in Special Education.” He also spent time with fellow school board members from Florida and Ms. Andrea Messina, Executive Director of the Florida School Boards Association as they met and spoke with Congresswoman Donna Shalala. Congresswoman Shalala would later recognize Dr. Gallon by name during her speech for the work in education in Miami in front of school board members, elected officials, and educators from across the country.
An unwavering champion and fighter for public education, Congresswoman Shalala will serve Floridians as a newly appointed Member of the Education and Labor Committee and in her role on the subcommittee for Elementary and Secondary Education.
Dr. Gallon was very humbled by her recognition and looks forward to working with her on behalf of public education.
2019 State of the County Address
Dr. Gallon had a great morning at the State of the County Address delivered by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez.
He gave huge congratulations to the Mayor and the members of the County Commission for the tremendous progress that has been achieved and special recognition to Chairwoman Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson and Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan for their great work and leadership.
M-DCPS Joint Legislative Meeting
On January 31, 2019, Dr. Gallon spent his afternoon at the Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Joint Legislative Meeting with State Senator and Education Committee Chair Manny Diaz.
2018 Francisco R. Walker Teacher of the Year Awards Recognition Dinner
Dr. Gallon wrapped up the evening of January 31, 2019 celebrating the outstanding and dedicated teachers of M-DCPS at the 2018 Francisco R. Walker Teacher of the Year Awards Recognition Dinner.
He gave congratulations to all of the finalists and winners and saluted them for all that they do for the students of M-DCPS.
