Greetings Dr. Steve Gallon III,
I hope that this edition of Gallon’s Good News finds each of you and your family on a successful journey through the school year. As the Holiday Season fast approaches and the school year moves forward, let’s continue to embrace a spirit and commitment of hope, optimism, and love for learning.
Please know that we continue to recognize that the great work of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools has and continues to be achieved on the backs of each you as a stakeholder and supporter of public education.
Again, I am honored and humbled to personally thank you all for the tremendous work you continue to do on behalf of our students and community.

October 10, 2018 Board Meeting
At the October 10, 2018 School Board Meeting, Dr. Gallon was actively engaged in his role as a policy maker as he successfully proffered a School Board agenda item that received unanimous approval and support from the Board.

Parent/Community Meeting
It was a great turnout at the Parent/Community Meeting held on October 1, 2018 to discuss the existing K-8 Conversion/Expansion Project slated for Biscayne Gardens/Thomas Jefferson Middle.
This project has added an additional $4 million dollars and will provide a new, state-of-the-art K-8 facility scheduled to open in August 2020.
Dr. Gallon appreciated the continued support and input from parents and the community and the region and district leadership for their commitment to this endeavor.
Miami Norland Senior Parent Meeting
Dr. Gallon commended the parents and community stakeholders of Miami Norland Senior High School for their great work and leadership.
He was also humbled to provide brief words regarding the collective work and commitment to the schools and students and the work ahead.
TAP Program
Dr. Gallon had the great opportunity to speak with educators and employees of the TAP Program. These employees provide support and assistance to teenage parents and their children.
He was humbled to be able to share his personal narrative on how the program supported him as young father nearly 35 years ago.
Commendations to Mr. Pierre Rutledge for his leadership and dedication in coordinating this very important meeting.
AHED Back-to-School Breakfast
At the 8th Annual Back to School Breakfast sponsored by the City of North Miami and the Association of Haitian Educators of Dade (AHED), Dr. Gallon was proud to support and give remarks .
He gave congratulations to the honorees and AHED for their continued work, dedication and support of the students.
Key to the City Presentation
Dr. Gallon was pleased to the attend the Key to the City Presentation to Dr. Eduardo Padron, President of Miami-Dade College in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
He gave huge congratulations to Dr. Padron for a well deserved honor and saluted North Miami Mayor Smith Joseph for this outstanding presentation.
5000 Role Models of Excellence TV Show on MDC TV
During the taping of the second episode for the 5000 Role Models of Excellence TV Show on MDC TV, Dr. Gallon had a great time with Dr. Marcus Bright.
It was a great opportunity for Dr. Gallon to discuss and share his perspective on the school-to-prison pipeline and strategies to improve the education and lives of male students of color.
Village Dialogue: The State of Black Miami Educational Panel
On October 10, 2018, Dr. Gallon spent his morning speaking on Education at the “Village Dialogue: The State of Black Miami Educational Panel.”

He congratulated the Chair, Stephen Hunter Johnson and the Members of the Black Advisory Board, as well as Commissioner Jean Monestine for continuing this critically important discourse.
Chiefs vs. Bulls
Dr. Gallon had a great time supporting Friday Night Lights in the match-up between the Miami Carol City Chiefs and Miami Northwestern Bulls.
He congratulated the Chiefs for their victory and saluted the Bulls for a hard fought game.
District 1 Town Hall Meeting
At the first District 1 Town Hall Meeting of the 2018-2019 school year, Dr. Gallon felt honored to be joined by educators, parents, students, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
It was a great opportunity to provide District 1 and School Board updates on policies, programs, practices, and progress as he approaches the end of his 2nd year in office.
It was also a great opportunity to discuss school improvement planning and monitoring.
Meeting with DEEAC Committee Chair
Dr. Gallon had a great meeting with District 1’s Appointee of Diversity Equity and Excellence Advisory Committee to discuss the status and progress of the required DEEAC Annual Report.
Dottie Johnson not only serves as the Appointee for District 1 but also serves the DEEAC Chair.
Dr. Gallon is looking forward to the report, as well as policy and program recommendations from DEEAC, pursuant to the current policy as well as his approved Board Agenda Item of June 21, 2017.
Interview w/Papa Keith on 103.5 The BEAT
On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, Dr. Gallon had the opportunity to sit down and discuss District 1, education, elections, teacher salaries(#362), and community involvement with 103.5 The BEAT’s radio personality, Papa Keith.
5000 Role Models of Excellence Regional Tie Tying Ceremony
